Back to back
They hung us naked
Back to back
On a cross of wood

Back to back
So we might suffer and die together
Back to back
But still apart

Back to back
We strain and struggle
Back to back
We cry and moan

Back to back
Only a narrow wooden stipe between us
Back to back
Twisting and turning, trying to touch

Back to back
Feet and ankles bound together
Back to back
On either side of our wooden stipe

Back to back
Wrists bound together on top the patibulum
Back to back
Fingers searching and clenching in desperate embrace

Back to back
Our naked flanks touching
Back to back
As we twist and writhe and turn

Back to back
Heads resting together side by side
Back to back
Her fair hair brushing my neck and shoulder

Back to back
Turning to look
Back to back
Into each others eyes

Back to back
Whispered words between gasps for breath
Back to back
Words of regret and everlasting love

Back to back
Heartache and pain collide
Back to back
Gaze diverted to the horror of the cross

Back to back
Exhaustion, pain and misery
Back to back
We die together, we die alone

Sweet stuff... and apols for being slow and all... but this line just gets to me:

Her fair hair brushing my neck and shoulder

Why? Cos it roots the external experience in the intimate... the tiny connections...that lie at the heart of things... a special little line in a lovely story.... Thank you!
