Cross of Ages

Cross of Ages, standing free,
crucified I hang on thee;
oozing thick my precious blood,
from my many wounds doth flood,
pain and sorrow must I endure;
until death doth make me pure.

Nails were driven through my hands
to fulfill the law's commands;
could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow,
I will scream and I will moan;
without hope I'll die alone.

No plea for mercy do I sing,
while naked to the cross I cling;
sweat upon my breasts doth sheen;
to the left and right I lean;
writhing to the crowd's delight;
dancing to the whip's cruel bite.

When I draw last fleeting breath,
when mine eyes shall close in death,
when I soar to worlds unknown,
lasting peace shall be my own,
Cross of Ages, standing free,
crucified I hang on thee.

She tries to die with dignity
while crucified naked for all to see.
I guard the scene paid ten coins
while playing with the stirring in my loins.
I don't even try to know what she thinks,
just hope she dies soon so I can get some drinks...

Giggle snort. A poet lurks beneath that haze of tobacco smoke and alcohol breath. :D

That's really a wonderful poem. One of your best, even if it is a sort of poetry-manip. Great work! :)

You know it's the way he would have written it, if he had only not been writing for the Victorian church. :confused::D
