Gorgeous, Messa, and the shield decoration proves that even a shield smiles to see you!

Messa on the cross is lovely... that shield decoration is hideous!
That is the Gorgoneion which is an image of the Gorgon's head people painted it on their shields or wore it as a badge on their armour or even had it decorate the entrance to their homes in order to ward off evil.
You may notice these later ones are the result of the Medusa myth describing her as really pretty. Medusa btw means more or less protector or defender. The poets might all have wanted to stroke little Perseus but soldiers and people who had stuff worth losing all knew who they wanted looking after them

Took a portion on a week's trip on the Norfolk Broads. Had to be confined to a locker in the cockpit, could not allow it into the cabin.
I thought there was a bit of a pong drifting down from Norfolk!
