I guess one thing I'll never understand is why so many people view only the first picture in a post. If I go back and look at the one I posted above showing the Sabina nailing scenes, over 140 people viewed the first picture, while only about 100 of those viewed any of the other pictures.

It's like that every time! Does that mean that they found out that those types of pictures were not what they wanted to see? And if so, what are they doing here??

There, Jedakk, just as you were posting I was commenting on your second picture! ;)

I've noticed the same thing. Pictures further down in the thread get less views. There are a couple of reason why this might happen. From what I was taught on website optimization, you lose a certain percentage of people every time a new page loads up. Getting to the bottom of these threads takes a lot of click through. Another reason I could see is a bit more simple, the pictures at the top of the thread were posted earlier, and more people have gone to look at them more than once. I wouldn't worry about it too much, like you said, most people are just passing through.

Can't imagine why that would be ... I always view them all :p:D:)

I know you probably look at them all, but I just wonder what's going on with these folks who will only look at that first one, no matter what it is. I bet if I posted a pic of Bozo the Clown first and then a string of naked, crucified girl pics after that, Bozo would get the most views. I may have to try that as an experiment...

What you said is certainly true about a thread, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about just the pictures in a single post on the thread. If I attach ten pictures to a single post, whatever the first pic is, it will get a lot more views than any of the rest of those.

When you click the first one a kind of viewer opens, and then you can scroll to view the others at a reasonable size. Then you can choose to view them in full size, if you wish, but often it's not much bigger.

I suspect a lot of people just do that, as do I a lot of the time, and then maybe it looks as though only the one image has been viewed?

Ok, I see what you mean. I don't think the picture actually is any bigger when you do that, at least not on my computer, it just opens in a new window. And for whatever reason, no matter what I do right now I can't get the view counts to increment. I might as well be a ghost as far as viewing pics is concerned right now.

I dont know. I see all... and download.

Hmmmm ... more often than not that enlarges the pic for me.

I have a good idea why... Jedakk for some reason when you post you pictures within the story if one opens it then goes to close it to continue reading if they don't do a 'go back' command but instead a 'close' or 'close tab' command it closes the site.

I don't know how you are putting your thumbnails in the story but if one forgets and doesn't open the thumbnail at the bottom of the post they are often getting knocked off the site if the hit one wrong click....

I'm not sure if it's relevant to your question, Jedakk, but it might be to Tree's problem:
you insert images into your text using (I suppose) the media icon on the taskbar above the reply box?
That does mean we can only view them one at a time, clicking back and forth.
The images appear a second time in the series at the bottom of your posts,
and there you can click on them and view in slide-show
(which is what Wragg's doing, so do I).
It might be better if you were to upload the images into your text as thumbnails,
using the button below the reply box, then they'd go straight into slide-show.

More generally, we have > 15,000 registered members, not to mention unregistered guests and robots,
all of whose 'views' are counted. < 10% who register post anything at all or acquire an avatar, barely 1%
have ever become regular active participants. I think those stats are reflected in the viewing patterns.

PS I'll leave this discussion here for the moment,
but might shift the relevant posts off to a make a new thread in Technical Questions -
it's hardly 'Victim's Eye View' ;)

I've been uploading the images so they appear below the post, then dragging them into the post as thumbnails wherever they fit into the narrative.

Yes, I know we have 99% lurkers here, plus who knows how many non-members and robots. That is a shortcoming of this site, having everything we post here exposed to everyone on the internet.

Non-members cannot open the thumbnails...

Jedakk's post from the Victim's Eye View thread:

Ok, just putting this picture of Bozo the Clown in as the first image to see how many views it gets from robots and web crawlers. No need to view this, just an experiment:

(I hope kiddies Googling for Bozo don't find the Forums - I don't think there's too much risk)

I bet that kiddies who ever heard of Bozo are few and far between! Right now Bozo has about two-thirds as many views on that post as Sabina has gotten. Not sure what that means, although there must be some who viewed that thread and actually clicked on that picture for whatever reason.
