Barb Moore, in her traditional role as an American academic researcher and expert in cruel and unusual treatment of female prisoners, has heard some news about such issues in the GDR prisons. She gets an invitation from the GDR to visit the East Berlin prison facilities, in order to show her she has it completely wrong. Despite the advice of Dean Windar, not to go, since the GDR authorities will only show her what they want her see, and she will only be used for propaganda, Prof. Moore accepts the invitation.
Barb is received very hospitably in East-Berlin, and the authorities are kindly willing to show her around in the prison facilities.
But then, the story takes the inevitable trouble twists (some I have already in mind), and Barb will soon find out herself how true her allegations about cruel treatment were.
