I'll post a short (one paragraph) story below this.

A princess is sentenced to crucifixion. She'll be nailed to a cross naked, suffering and dying next to a big public market during a festival that will draw a big audience to watch. In light of her lofty rank and status in society she's entitled to have a cross that's carefully made by the best furniture makers, with the finest hardwoods and the finest workmanship, and the best, most skillful decorative carvings in the wood. The night before her sentence was to begin she got to have a look.
