It is rumored that Edward II of England was killed by his wife and her lover at Berkeley Castle, Gloucestershire on 21 September 1327 by being held down and having a red-hot poker inserted inside his anus. This was done so the body could be displayed mostly naked to prove that he died of natural causes and was not murdered.
