It was delayed in the shop. Something about having to make multiple molds on a live model and not getting it quite right each time. But the guys assure everyone they will keep at it till they get it right. Dedicated workers for sure. :D

I always wonder though about these warrior types - if you knew you were going to be crucified, why wouldn't you fight to the death? There's an important psychological insight in there somewhere.

Actually using real sword fighting techniques (as taught from the Middle Ages onward, we don't have any earlier manuals) it is incredibly easy to down or defeat an opponent even when unarmed or with an inferior weapon (I once defeated a guy with a two handed sword using just a dagger in 9 out of 10 bouts). Furthermore battlefield fighting is nothing like a duel (or the nonsense you see in videos) because opponents are coming at you from all sides.

I have tried fighting 2 on 1 and it is incredibly difficult unless the 2 you are fighting are incredible screw ups. I can't even imagine 3 or more against just me (again despite Hollywood you lose that one 99 out of 100 times).

And honestly you are taught to go for the most exposed target, say like a sword arm that just missed landing the blow?

Archeologists who have dug up Viking battlefield graves have discovered that the majority of the dead were disabled first by a blow below the knees before being dispatched.

So WANTING to die fighting and actually DOING so isn't as easy as it seems. Especially if someone has offered a large sum of money for you to be taken alive.

That is a very helpful perspective. So, reasonably easy for a couple of guards to simply overpower or disable the condemned without actually killing them so they can get the person to the proper spot for the execution.

That big round (or other shape) thing at the end of the handle, called a pommel, is not just there to counter balance the blade and keep your hand from sliding off; it is also a weapon. In real fights, it was used to strike the opponent. From this we get the English verb "to pommel".

The technique could be used to take someone down without killing them.
