a mysterious object with images of torture scenes on it -- not sure if the object itself is also a torture instrument
The entry in the (fascinating!) catalogue you've posted describes them:
Fernand Meyssonnier. (oxydation)

Essentially, they were decorative plates on the leather covers, front and back, of a book listing 'every form of torture'.
Presumably the connecting chain was added after they'd been removed from the book - a shame that volume didn't survive!

from a movie?
Maybe from Sparthacus War of the damned T4 Ep 4.

While rebels hold Sinuessa a roman girl named Fabia is prisoner naked in a dungeon where she is being raped and tortured by Nemetes and other rebels. Then Julius Caesar who is infiltrated in the city is tested by Nemetes by raping the girl. She begs Julius to kill her in a quick death instead the slow torture she is enduring. So Caesar kills her to relieve her sufferings. It is one of the most sordid scenes in my opinion because you can imagine the brutal rapes and tortures this girl has standed for days..

Probably a much more realistic portrayal of what happened to condemned women than we usually get from the media. I'm all for realism,
