I can imagine how much work that must be! I have an aversion to tattoos on account of me being a sissy lol. Joan can hit me with any dart she wants...:devil:

Actually to take the question seriously there have always been free women, not merely because slavery is an artificial state that even most ancient writers accepted was against the Natural Law but even slave owning societies tended to base themselves upon the concept of citizens born of citizen women.

Common law was an interesting divergence in that it held that the father decided the birth status of the child but in the American colonies there were moves to alter this to the Civil Law interpretation based on the status of the mother thus leading to a divergence in legal codes between Britain and her colonies in the 18th Century and we all know what happened next :p
