I really like this one. While I am not for scourging prior to crucifixion (unless my men are getting near overtime and I want the condemned to die quickly; always watch the bottom line you know) I suppose a few licks of the whip make be needed along the way to prod her along.
Also I think that as the processes goes on her body would acclimate to the pain and for periods the screaming and crying would cease...
By the way the blood on this one is better than your early works that I found too light in color (unless it was diluted with Seagram's as had mine been!!!)

I like that word. I'm imagining something different, I'm imagining a ritual crucifixion, and that the orchestrators of such ritual want a full scene, which should also include bereft bystanders, regardless of whether anyone is there for today's victim.
So, a pair of dedicated 'Sorrowmaidens' will always attend, and provide the wailing,so the victim feels like there's anyone at all in the world who cares about their ordeal...

I want to steal this and use it right away in English. I'd think the idea it suggests is halfway occupied in German by 'Klageweib' but that's a bit derogative and just doesn't have the poetic beauty of 'Sorrowmaiden' because that suggests more than just a lamentress, also somehow taking up the burden of that sorrow, and a pure dedication to that. I think they will fit right into the world of 'Every Shadow...' when I manage to get back to that...
