ShoIn my childhood I lived in the countryside, and the background of Tree's manip, fox-hunting, was a common sight and unsettled me then. In my opinion, the worst aspect of the British character, but unfortunately not yet extinct.
Shortly after the Rt Hon Robert Lord Runcie became Archbishop of Canterbury HM invited him to a Royal garden party. A number of guests engaged in a heated debate about blood sports. ONE of the lairds turned on the archbishop and asked "your Grace what is your position? Have you ever killed animals?"His Grace took a sip of tea drew himself to his full height looked down his nose at the gentry and cried "NO SIR, I have never killed animals.....I have only killed MEN!" They had quite forgotten that his Grace had spent WWII as an officer in the Scots Guards with a Military Cross to his credit the Queen is reported to have almost wet herself laughing
