Here you go Tree. Despite the level of difficulty around Mt Panorama the best lap time just keeps coming down!

The most famous name in Australian motorsport owns the lap record at Australia’s most famous racetrack.

https://www.drive.com.au/news/brabh...20665.html?ffref=brisbanetimes&trackLink=SMH3

Former Bathurst winner Luke Youlden drove the Brabham BT62 in a series of demonstration laps with his fastest time, a 1:58.670 secs, beating the previous benchmark set by German Christopher Mies, 1:59.3secs at the Challenge Bathurst event late last year in an unrestricted Audi R8 LMS race car.

The cars will be built in South Australia and the first one is scheduled for delivery to a German customer in Q3 this year.

The fastest lap by a car in GT3 racing trim was set by Shane van Gisbergen in a Maclaren 650S in 2016 at 2:01:286
Bathurst has got to be one of the best race tracks left... The rest are 'cleaned up' so 'gentleman drivers' can spin their cars with little regard for damage....

Some of these old cars had the very convenient front bench seats, sadly replaced by bucket seats separated by a center console that denies a Lady the possibility to adequately entertain her Driver...
Pp’s gear shift is located far enough forward and the console low enough not to interfere …

Pp isn’t excited by ‘trucks’ despite having been chauffeured about by US colleagues in Dodge Rams and the like often enough but He does like that old Mercedes and the Porsche.

And how was that ‘barn find’ in Turin in November when a very rare 1962 Giulietta SZ was discovered in a basement?

The car sat there for 35 years after the lift broke down. The owner (a mechanic) died without leaving a will, so it was put up for auction by the government. It sold for €567,000 or about US$650,000 after nothing more than a cleanup and detail.

Why not a car from GDR, build in my neighbor city?

I’m pondering whether to reach over the driver’s seat or whether to ‘internalize’ the steering gear column... Decision decisions... always so difficult to choose.
Internalise? Like this?

But back to cars …

Why not a car from GDR, build in my neighbor city?
Ate they still building the Wartburg Coupe madi?

This morning Pp began trawling through old hard drives looking for a series of photos of Dee Luvbight as "Gadget" at Folsom Street Fair in 2009 but found an old treasure trove of photos of race cars instead.

Pp thinks this is one truly beautiful car. She is the 1965 Ferrari 250LM that won the Le Mans 24 Hour in that year driven by Masten Gregory and the great Jochen Rindt and powered by a wonderful V12 engine.

Does Tree recognise the home of the collection where she is housed? (Pp's last visit there was in August 2010 and it is possible that the cars displayed may well have changed since)

I just happened to read about the Ford Edsel

edsel-876.jpg

among many reasons why it didn't Edsel was the front grille,
compared politely to a horse collar or a toilet seat,
less politely to a lady part ;)

If anyone is looking to upgrade this car is up for auction by Bonhams at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed on 5th July.

F094E37E-E0F6-47B6-912F-A45A048ABE36.jpeg

If it isn’t immediately recognisable it is the Williams FW14B Nigel Mansell took to his only F1 drivers’ world championship in 1992. Mansell drove the car in 7 of the 16 of the races that year for 5 wins and a second before it was passed on to his team mate who manage another podium finish.is going to auction by Bonhams at the Goodwood Festival of Speed sale on July 5.

Word is that the Williams could go for around £3 million.

Mansell’s solitary F1 crown was overdue as it came in his last full season in F1 – when Mansell was pushing 40 – by which point he had finished runner-up three times.

The FW14B was a classic but well ahead of the game with sophisticated systems such as active suspension, a semi-automatic paddle shift gearbox and traction control. Many of these features were banned for the 1994 season, so the FW14B remains, even now, one of the most advanced cars to have competed in F1.

Want to hear how throaty F1 cars sounded like before they took away the V10 engines and replaced them with today’s food processors?

(It isn’t Mansell in the cockpit but the one with his boot on the throttle is near as hefty as Nigel)

Although it had lots of other problems, I always thought it might have succeeded if it had had a different name. Let's be honest, Edsel is a weird name for a man, much less a car.
Designers at the time often gave the cars suggestive features. The 57 Cadillac was note for its front bumper's resemblance to the "front bumpers" of a woman.
cadi1.jpgcadi2.jpg
If you can't see it, you should remember that women at the time wore bullet bras.
