I am sure most of us have been banned from dA at some point; I certainly have. To be honest, I am not too bothered about getting more violent stuff taken down as the sex images. The former replicates things that are not nice in real life, the latter something that is nice in real life (usually). This is not some woke movement (this is a meaningless term anyway- just a dogwhistle in the US and some far right groups in Europe who think "be equally nice to everyone" is not acceptable; I regard being referred to as woke as a complement), more the puritanical pseudochristianity of the US (as an atheist I am sure I run my life far closer to the things Jesus is alleged to have said than many so called Christians) who have something against sex. The more 'woke' countries in Europe have a very open attitude to sex and far less to violence. Any country where it is easier to buy an assault rifle than a dildo has something wrong in its psyche.

I don't think it's so much puritanism as the fear of being linked to sex trafficking and/or underage and the legal consequences of that. And that's not an unrealistic fear when you allow user-generated content. Just look how many mods monitor this site, which gets a few hundred posts a day (and they do an excellent job). Now imagine trying to control a site that gets thousands or hundreds of thousands of posts/day.

I though that’s what OnlyFans was for..
So one would think, the Guardian even considers the two things to be 'synonymous' ;)

Yup, and pressure from upstream financials & payment processing companies makes sense in that context too.

Say you have a shop wanting to use an established payment processor like Stripe which has a strict no-porn rule, but since it was n 'sex toy' shop they said that's OK ... but shut the payments down after a while anyway due to upstream pressure from let's say Wells Fargo.

If anyone in the entire financial chain thinks there's a risk (legal, reputational, etc) you can get these results.

Well as another example, OnlyFans are reported as saying they are soon going to 'block sexually explicit content and video' and it's said to be mostly pressure from payment companies.
Well, since onlyfans is mainly about videos that pornstars share with their fans, I think it will destroy the site ...

and honestly, I don't care ... this war, companies struggling with sexual themes, will lose.
For every page or site that you reduce or cancel, there will always be a new one!

and a lot of artists have now downloaded to independent sites, and hidden sites! where only the faithful can get!

and there is no such bullying from webmasters! (deviantart, patreon)

You're absolutely correct. If Onlyfans think they're going to survive this move, then they're in for a truly horrific wake-up call!

More reasons to cuss OnlyFans.

Onlyfans is dead. They've just committed corporate suicide. Given the amount of money this content made for them, they can be sure that someone will be happy to step in and take their cut :D

As usual there are multiple sides to every story, this one takes a different view
Honestly, a lot of those examples from the Huffpost link rather point to a political problem, (the consequences of the absence of a social safety net and the risk of healthcare bankruptcy etc.)

I am unable to argue with that.

I agree that is most likely where these companies are coming from, but the pressure most certainly is coming from puritans, who want all porn and all extra-marital sex removed from society.

Yeah good luck with that. The fact is that sex sells. Always has. Always will. To suggest otherwise is to deny the very nature of what it is to be human. One day even the wokest of the woke companies will wake up and realise that if they want to actually make money and survive, then they're going to have to go back to appealing to the masses, not the broke weirdos on twitter who don't buy their products in the first place

No-one who is actually woke is attacking sex or porn. These companies are caving to the least woke people in society, the theocrats.

Breaking News!!!!

OnlyFans has reversed its decision and will once again host explicit material.

Oh well, I guess the grand plan to disembowel your own business didn't seem like such a good idea after all. Kudos for common sense for a change

Seriously OF have experienced an absolutely apocalyptic backlash over this, not only from their own content creators (ie. the ones who actually built the platform into what it is today) but also from the mainstream media.

What was most interesting is that we all know that it was the banks that were behind this, yet when the owners of OF went public with their demands, they decided to back off a bit. I guess all these big corporations are happy enough to act like complete bellends but they really don't like being called out on it.

Interesting that. In the last few years, a lot of the banks have taken to throwing their weight around, but when they get called for their bullshit, they run away with their tails between their legs like the abject cowards they really are.

I guess that's what you expect when you deal with a load of bankers (with a capital W) though...
