I just had the opportunity to watch Electric City's film "Electro Anal Torture and Suffocation for Sophie Rogers"
It's just sensational.
You can almost sense the fear. Having been captured and then stripped in a humiliating way in front of the Taliban fighters, Sophie is beyond afraid. Yet the worse is yet to come. In the movie, you can feel her raw terror and horror come through, and build as she is shocked again and again in the most sensitive of place.
The cinematography is also incredible. Bare feet are used as a method of humiliation and as a subtle symbol of vulnerability in many prisons throughout the world. The Taliban soldiers clearly agree with this. Her bare feet are tantalizing to look at in the film. However, with the obvious wear and tear on them, one is invited to imagine the discomfort of the poor soldier as she was marched naked, chained, and barefoot across the deserts of Afghanistan. She must feel horribly vulnerable and exposed.
The camera angles constantly invite the viewer to imagine and anticipate what next lies in store for the former poor soldiers. Will it be her butt - so vulnerable to a flogging? Will it be her feet - falaka is a time honoured punishment in the region? Only time will tell. The viewer is subtle enticed to imagine two choices before Sophie: continued torture and death or she will soon break, betray her country by spilling all the information she knows, and be sold as a sex slave for ongoing enjoyment.
It’s hard to find a better film around that portrays the sensational fantasy of a female soldier captured and at the mercy of the Taliban.
I can't wait to watch these new films now. If they're anywhere near as good as the old ones, they will be sensational.
