Apostate and I have just gone through the most dangerous winter storms to ever hit the North Eastern United States, ”Sandy”. Where in a hurricane designated as “Sandy” and a winter storm front combined and began feeding off of each other. The eye of the hurricane passed over my home and while Apostate lives 90 miles (About 140 KM.) to the north in New York City they had it much worse than we did. The subways (Tub to our English friends.) are flooded, and entire neighborhood burned down to the level of the flood. A 1942 oil tanker ship was cast ashore and onto a roadway on Staten Island. It has been said that they might not have electrical power for more than a week. All very messy and our friend Apostate deserves our best wishes.
Helmut

Keep safe, all of you in the storm.

Glad to hear that you & Apostate are OK, Helmut. Hope that our other friends in Sandy's path are all right, even if they aren't able to communicate with us. As a veteran of many tropical storms, huricanes & no-name storms, I can say that this looks like one of the nastiest. Also, about IM's video, as a veteran, I can also say that there is something about big storms that brings out the stupid in some people.

I have heard from Apostate,
Considering the circumstances all is well with him. We exchange emails privately and I am forwarding his latest to you all. In order to preserve confidentiality I have omitted names and family references since we are an unusual group.
Helmut
The sanitized text of his email follows:

“Have been without power since the night of The Superstorm. But I live on the highest elevation in NYC we did not flood. Thank (insert deity here) that we don't live in Hoboken.
I type this from the nearest local public library that's open, charging up my laptop along with about 40 other people. But bottom line, we're inconvenienced but otherwise fine. I'd be obliged if you could forward this message to interested parties.
And I trust all is well out by you. We're all going to be cleaning up from this mess for months if not years.”

How true!
Many of them populate the casualties list, after such a event... (on the road despite warnings etc.)
Others don't know better than to twitter about loitering... (those should all be put in jail imho, even (and even more so) if it was "only" a stupid joke).
Good to hear that "ours" all are fine.
