Hurricane Sandy did not strike Florida, but it claimed a local landmark. For most of my life the HMS Bounty spent much of the year docked at the St Petersburg Pier. Early Monday morning, as Sandy was making its way north, the Bounty suffered engine failure & sank off the coast of North Carolina. The Coast Guard was able to rescue all but 2 crew members. The body of one, Claudene Christian, was recovered, making her the 1st US victim of Sandy. The ships captain remains missing.
The ship was an exact replica of the original British Navy ship & was built for the 1962 film Mutiny on the Bounty. She was also featured in The Pirates of the Carribean. amd although it's not mentioned in news reports, she served as a set for the porno films Pirates & Pirates II.

The Coast Guard called off the search for Captain Robin Walbridge. He has not been declared dead, however, so he's not one of the 97 US fatalities (as of 7:51 EDT 11/2). The total death toll is 166.
 
That is a real shame about the Bounty and crew members. A few years ago the Cutty Sark went up in flames but has since been restored.
It's good to see that you Floridians (?) have finally finished counting your votes..again. Would you like me to send you an abacus?
