As some of you might have noticed, I have not been contributing anything for a few weeks. That's because a lightning strike killed my router and, after having to deal with Frontier Communications and the "wonderful" customer service
, and finally getting a new working router I discovered that the lightning had damaged my computer too. Due to its age, it was cheaper to get a new (refurbished) model. Finally, I got a new one yesterday.
I did have wifi with the new router, but my laptop is also old and slow and would have been almost useless for a site like this.
I'm still trying to set things up so I may not be very active for a while, but I am here again.
You did notice I've been missing, didn't you?

Frontier Communications. They're the ones who bought " wire assets" years ago that Verizon wanted to get rid of. I own Verizon stock. I got some Frontier stock when the deal closed. Having been burned before (i.e., one spin-off went belly up), I sold it right away. From what I've read, Frontier has huge debt and their profitability is always questionable. Of course you can't pick your land-line carrier very easily, especially in rural areas.I'm baaaaaack!

Then its a good thing I got back when I did.
That's them. Our landline was with Verizon (before that, it was GTE) when we first got the internet. The only alternative in our area is Spectrum (formerly Bright House, formerly Time-Warner), which does pretty good with the cable TV, but I've heard their internet is even worse than Frontier.
They say competition improves service and brings down price. Yeah, right.
