Judicial Corporal Punishment Of Women: Illustrations

This is a public judicial whipping of two upper-class women in colonial Mexico, from the 2005 Mexican telenovela Alborada (Ep. 89). It has been circulating for many years in shockingly poor resolution (144p or something), but I have now found a decent 480p file of that episode (in Spanish with Russian subtitles), from which I have clipped the flogging scene. The setting is distinctly similar to Amy Hesketh's flogging in "Dead But Dreaming" (minus the nudity and red hair), which I suspect is not a coincidence.

Well, they do get whipped on the bare back after a bit of ripping the dress down. Beats whipping over clothes. Pity we only get some very brief glimpses of bloody backs.

Displayed for shaming and humiliation is always a preliminary step before the actual sentence of public punishment is carried out. For some this is actually far worse than the whipping or riding the wooden horse.

Silly, futile attempts at easing her nakedness that only amuse the onlookers even more. Especially since all will be completely revealed soon enough when her sentence is carried out.

Helping her fellow miscreant to mount the bench of penitence before she takes her own place facing her, all while the Lord High Justice and the town leaders observe their punishment. The next step of their sentences shall be fifty lashes each upon bare breasts and bellies as they ride.

Must be a shock, going from being overdressed to clutching their naked bodies. I love the image of them being forced to fend for themselves in the wild, but completally naked and with no access to clothing, and even being forced to live like this, they never adjust to their situation, and a perpetually embararessed infront of each other while they try to hide their nudity. Maybe they will live out in the wild as permanently naked wild women, that is until they are captured as slaves, in which case, they will still remain naked, but paraded out in public, rather than being hidden outside the city walls.
