Correct. The movie came out in 1998 and was the true story of fashion model Gia Marie Carangi, whose meteoric rise to supermodel status (though that term wasn't coined until later) was tarnished by her fall into drug addiction (sadly a curse that has afflicted far too many people in the industry) and who died of AIDS in 1986, which she is believed to have contracted from an infected needle.

Angelina Jolie gives a really great performance in the film and it's well worth watching, though be warned, it's a tough watch, especially for those of us who've been in that line of work and have seen too many friends' lives destroyed by drugs.
