March 17 is St. Patrick's day. St. Louis has a large Irish community known as 'Dogtown' (long story) so an Irish consulate was in town for the St. Patrick's Day Parade and told this joke on the radio...

An Irish immigrant walked into a tavern and sat at the bar with a heavy Irish brogue he asked the bartender for 3 Guinness Stouts and three shots of Irish whisky. The bartender asked if he wanted them all at once and the Irishman said yes.

The Irishman quickly downed the drinks and asked for another round of the same and quickly downed the same. The bartender said he had never seen anyone drink like that.

The Irishman said “If you had what I do you would drink like I do!”

“It must be terrible! What do you have?” the bartender asked.

“Two dollars” replied the Irishman…

This month marks the the 45th anniversary of the death of one of my favorite Motown singers, Tammi Terrell. She passed away at the young age of 24, from a brain tumor on March 16, 1970. Her voice was a magnificent thing of beauty.
She recorded on her own, and with the great Marvin Gaye. This is one of the greatest duets recorded in my humble opinion:
.....I could listen to this a thousand times and never get sick of it.

Happy Birthday, Zylinderrohr, I have enjoyed your posts both here and elsewhere!!

With apologies to my friends in the US, who won't know him, but the world is a poorer place for the loss of Richie Benaud, 1930-2015, a true sportsman and the voice of cricket.

May he rest in peace.
Thanks Wragg. Pp understands that his family have been offered a state funeral. Today's press has pages of recollections including this from a former Prime Minister http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/nat...wrought-by-richie-benaud-20150410-1mifrh.html

To Pp growing up the voice of cricket was Allan McGillvray on the wireless but, as television took over the game, it became Richie Benaud. He knew, unlike many commentators, that television needed few words of embellishment and he always found those right few words.

A useful leg spin bowler, a handy all-round cricketer, a good Australian captain but the king of commentators, as identifiable with cricket as the late, great Don Bradman.
