Executioner
This series is about Heidi, a stewardess for the German airline Lufthansa during WWII. She was observed passing secret documents to an Allied agent in Argentina after a flight between Lisbon and Buenos Aires. Upon the return to Germany, she was taken by surprise and arrested so quickly she wasn’t able to get her cyanide capsule to her mouth. It was pried from her fingers, and she taken to a secret SS interrogation chamber in Bavaria. The chamber still had some of the original torture engines from the time of the Witchseekers, though they had been modernized by the Germans with Teutonic efficiency.
"This is the Wheel," the SS colonel told Heidi after she had been dragged, bound and gagged, into the chamber. "Recalcitrant witches were burnt to a crisp on the Wheel, just as you will be if you do not tell us who passed you the secret information on our new jet fighter."
But Heidi, who had been a member of the anti-Nazi underground since before the start of the war, said nothing, though she fought her captor fiercely. Her eyes, however, reflected her terror as she gazed on the massive instrument.
"Very well, Fraulein. It appears you need to be convinced by pain beyond your ability to stand it. But make no mistake—you will tell us what we want to know sooner or later. Save yourself the agony of being slowly revolved over the fire by telling us now."
But Heidi said nothing, even after her gag was removed.
"Secure her to the Wheel, Groeber," Hoerst ordered. “She wants to feel the flames licking at her bare flesh.”
" Jawohl, Herr Oberst!"
