THE SENTENCE
The young slave was brought before Gaius Servilius Cepione, the Magistrate who was supposed to issue the sentence on her fate. Zmyrna knew that her crime deserved death, but she hoped that at least it would be a quick death... Unfortunately for her, that was not the case. The magistrate looked at her for a long time, walked around her, touched her flesh. Then looking into her eyes he said to her: "Homicidal and fugitive slave, you will be crucified in the Arena and you will die in atrocious and long torments" then he turned and left the room... leaving her in the hands of her tormentors.
She was still screaming "mercy … have mercy…” as they took her towards the flagellation column…
