My Livia

Titus ended his recollection as he heard feet shuffling close by on the road and looked to see Aulus leading a small group strung along the road. At the center were the three condemned carrying their crossbeams. Aulus noticed Titus and cordially said, “We’ll be starting shortly” before breaking away to bark orders to his detachment. Titus looked to find Livia.

A very impressive, memorable story. This went well beyond an erotic fantasy. In fact, I didn't find it erotic at all, and I mean that as a compliment. I really cared about these people and I found the ending awful and sad and . . . inevitable. Thanks for writing it. I hope you'll write more.

I second what JS said. Well done! :goodjob:

Agony
Livia whimpered softly as two guards pinned her slender forearms to the crossbeam which she would soon be fixed to. She watched intently as the carnifex placed the square wood pallet over her left wrist, and began to position the nail. She breathed shakily with anticipation. Titus held his breath, and felt his stomach begin to knot up.

Remorse
...
Titus rode to Ariminum the next day as well. Livia was still alive but her breathing had become irregular as her strength drained away in the summer heat. The morning after she barely clung to life. Titus didn’t visit Ariminum again until a few weeks later when the crosses were empty once more.

“Thank you sir.”, the Nubian grinned widely. Nonus turned and left Titus alone with the chest. Titus looked at it for a while then pushed himself onto his feet. He hobbled to the chest and flipped it open with his cane. Titus rummaged through piles of old scrolls with the end of the beech cane until he uncovered a strand of faded yellow cloth. Titus eyed it curiously, and skillfully hooked the strand so it hung limply at the end of the cane. Titus pulled to reveal a full yellow linen tunic, dusty and chewed by moths. Tucked neatly underneath was a blue tunic and underneath that a red tunic. Titus lowered himself carefully to the floor and took the yellow tunic in his hands. He ran his fingers carefully along the fabric so not to tear it anymore; dust fell as he caressed the tunic. He looked at it tenderly, his mouth slightly agape. He closed his eyes and the memories came back:

First, he saw his father lecturing in a grand villa in Rome.

Then he heard the sound of the turbicon, and marching feet in a foreign land.

He saw himself and Alec sitting under the stars talking about the upcoming harvest.

Finally, he found himself at Marcus’s coming of age ceremony. He saw Marcus stand tall in his toga virillis; full of self-assuredness and youthful vigor. He heard Lucia tell a joke and Licinia and Appius laugh. He looked over and saw his wife smiling at him from across the room. Then he turned and saw Livia. She stood playing a cheerful melody on the Tibia in the yellow linen tunic he had bought her. When she finished, she looked into his eyes and smiled. Titus opened his eyes as the pain in his side abated. He knew he would alright in the other world and he on the way.

The End

I like this story and the art of Madiosi so much because they are very realistic.

By the way, this is the Arch of Augustus at Rimini and it was part of the city walls of the ancient Ariminum.
It's very probable that real slaves' crucifictions happened there.

I know, my gates build later in the empire. And this gate too in the early empire. Bh5's story played in the Republican age.

Goodbyes

Servina stood at Livia’s cross whispering into her ear. Titus stopped at yelled “Servina, get back here now!”. Servina smiled and kissed Livia on the cheek before running to rejoin the caravan as it trundled to the villa.

What exactly is Servina up to? What's she whispering into Livia's about and what's that obviously abusive kiss she gave for?

Epilogue

Servina accompanied Titus, and the pair leisurely traveled through the picturesque Italian countryside. Titus met his “friend” near a pit mine outside of Syracuse. Coins were exchanged, and Servina was braced by several men. She struggled fiercely, but was soon overwhelmed. Titus got a perverse sense of satisfaction thinking of her being worked to death in the stifling conditions of the mines, and had smiled as she was dragged away in chains.

I think Servina, should've been crucified in the end too. I think it would have been more interesting for her to end off in a similar manner as Livia (make her feel that the same pain), and it would have added a little extra crux to the story.

Lucky for us the threat of being crucified like Livia are virtually zero.
Except of course for fantasy ones :D

I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING!!

I absolutely LOVE this type of story, because it brings back the feelings I felt when I first felt the draw of the cross and the tortured martyr. The feelings of sympathy and deep sadness combined with the unexplainable arousal that together leaves a slightly sick feeling (a good one) in the pit of my stomach.

As much as I love the brutal fiction where the goal is sheer sexual stimulation, it's tales like these that are the true stories. The ones that leave you contemplative for hours afterwards on these particular moments. Hell, in a broader tale, this could be fully acceptable as a film or television show about the life of one Roman man in a sea of tyranny and villainy, and how he seems to be apart from the world he lives in, but must constantly be dragged back.

A wonderful image to illustrate a wonderful story! :)

Bh5. A truly exceptional piece of work that transcends on many levels. Would only wish more clarity from Livia on what transpired with Marcus. A young nobleman having all privileges with his attractive female slave for years while growing up with her, and then dies when she resists him? One can only imagine even more complexity to the story.

Drunk young ones without their parents can develop acute homeyness and attraction to someone that is in a way an older sister.
Maybe she had a rough day/her period and shoved him off.. maybe if he had been gentler she would have let him.

most of the times drunk people dont suffer injuries.
But an unlucky small fall can be fatal if you hit something pointy or sharp-edged with your head.

Even without the intent to kill, a slave killed her masters son.
A grief stricken mother demands the slaves crucifixion..
She dont care if it was accidental she just want that killer slave slowly suffering to death.

Just my 2 cents :)
