Not raven-black, not reddish-brown,
just very dark brown.
When I was a kid I thought it was black and no-one disagreed,
until I was 11 and someone filling in some ID details when I went to secondary school
said "it's not black, it's dark brown".
Compared with some Asian or African black hair, I suppose they were right.
