That was intense, though I doubt she would have looked so serene in the last frames, too bloody for my tastes but no doubt an execution that was widely practiced in history!
 
The crucifixion is itself a terrible torture. After the lashes come the nails and then the victim can be left to die little by little of suffocation, fatigue, hunger and thirst, etc.

However, depending on the cruelty of the executioners, torture can get much worse.

For example using fire .....

After several hours or days of hanging on the cross, the victim can be killed by accumulating wood at the foot of the stipe and lighting a fire. The victim thus dies at the stake, starting with her legs, if not much wood is put in and the stake itself is expected to burn, the stake can last for a few hours. If more wood is put in, the victim dies faster from asphyxiation from the smoke.

Death can even be further accelerated by impregnating the victim and stipe with tar or other flammable matter. Thus, for a few minutes, the crucified woman becomes a human torch. It is very useful for lighting night games.

In any case, fire can be used in more magical ways not to hasten death but simply to torture. A torch is enough for this.

superb images and descriptions one imagines the unfortunate women screaming their suffering in front of this crowd which rejoices at the spectacle of the flames which burn the sensitive parts of the body

Early Christian stories of saints being martyred may not be very reliable history, but it does seem from those, supported by other Roman sources, that any slave who fell into the clutches of the authorities, even just as a source of 'useful information', could expect to be stretched on the 'eculus' (little horse) a kind of rack - and their strained muscles torn with red-hot hooks. And females routinely had their breasts burnt and torn too. Similar tortures would also very likely have been used to add to the suffering of victims on crosses.
