How are many of these slaves literally fat? With all that physical activity they are more or less forced to perform? Taking in account they probably get (not even enough) low quality for what passes as food and water. It's a contradiction to me...

I would suggest that slave girls proceeded horses in some places. North America had no horses until their re introduction by Europeans, yet taking of slaves had happened for thousands of years of intertribal warfareCould go as far back as when humans first began using horses to draw wheeled carriages.
