"Marciana was the daughter of a wealthy Mauretanian family, but she left her hometown and all her wealth, and preferred to live a simple and chaste life in another town. It is said, however, that she stood up against the superstition of the pagans and once shattered a sculpture of the pagan goddess Diana. For this sacrilege she was sent into the arena “ad bestias” in 303. According to the legend, the lion that was sent against her did not harm her, but only licked her feet. Then a bull was driven against her and injured her. Only the third animal, a leopard, managed to kill her."

"Beasts were specially trained to copulate with women: if the girls or women were unwilling then the animal would attempt rape. Is the animal head affixed to the front of the cart supposed to make the bull think that the victim is a cow? :rolleyes:

The reality of these particularly cruel and pervert games are seriously questioned by historians and on the internet. Testemonies of the roman times who asserted such animal rapes are not many and their reliablility is not proven.

Several questions raise about this issue : first, it is not an easy task to teach wild and dangerous beasts, and for some species, it seems pratically unbelievable to assure the "good result" (except maybe for dogs, horses, jackasses or some domesticated bulls) ; second, chimpanzees are primates from central Africa and this species was probably unknown to the Romans, according to several sources, they didn't go that deep in Africa.
