After trying to derober the necklace that the queen refused, Countess De La Motte was condemned to be flogged, marked with iron and locked up in the "Salpetriere" prison. She escaped in 1787 and took refuge in London, where she died in 1791.
 
Troubles of a French Couple
Not so sure. I was first thinking about a firing squad during the Paris Commune (1871). The uniforms however rather look like these of the Bavarian army during the 1870-1871 Franco-Prussian War. So, execution of French franc-tireurs?
