As promised, here are the links to the PDF ebook of THE WITCH. I’ve provided the high-resolution versions in both color and black-and-white. Please add these to your personal collections. This is currently the only place on the internet where I’m posting it. Consider it, for the time being, an exclusive gift to you all and CF as a further thank you:

Color High-Resolution (25.7mb)

Black-and-White High-Resolution (18.5mb)

In addition, @Madiosi, please replace the PDF version in the archive with the linked versions below. You can decide which to include in the archives. It is the standard size version and both are under 10 MB in satisfaction of CF’s requirements:

Color Standard Resolution (9.6mb)

Black-and-White Standard Resolution (7.9mb)

Thank you all, again. Until next time!
this is definitely one of the most beautifully done torture illustrations I've seen in a long time (I'm also excited about the different types of torture that haven't been used yet!)

will you make a sequel please??
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed my complete vision of Agnes' story. One of the reasons I did THE WITCH is that I didn't see this type of series done on the witch hunt/inquisition theme, so I wanted to fill a void. Also, my preference is that in hanging scenes the condemned be fully bound because it is more subjugating. The state is unleashing all its might on the condemned who is stripped of even the ability to have free movement as they suffer. I also had not seen series that depicted hangings in that manner, so I wanted to fill that void as well. And with that, I wanted to do justice to the tragic events underlying the story and present it in the most compelling way I could.

As to a sequel? I'm open to doing more in the witch hunt/inquisition theme, but it will have to be bigger. I wouldn't want to rehash what I just accomplished. In the future, I also wouldn't mind doing more illustrations in Agnes' story. She is my favorite protagonist.

In the meantime, I am working on some other stuff. So I'll be sharing that in the near future.

Hello, Everyone. After I completed FALL OF THE TEMPLE, I’ve been busy with other things, but I have been meaning to return to my favorite protagonist, Agnes Walker.

Here are new illustrations in THE WITCH for your enjoyment. These are “connector” illustrations to the action illustrations I previously shared.

The first is right after Agnes is arrested and before she is charged. She watches her distraught husband as she is carted away.

For the second, I realized that I had not done an illustration of one of the most important “characters” in THE WITCH – Old Tolbooth Prison. In both the story and real life, the notorious Old Tolbooth Prison in Edinburgh was a proverbial house of horrors. I wanted to convey that feeling here as Agnes is led to the prison after she is charged.

For the third, one of my earliest illustrations was Agnes enduring the iron chair and pilliwinks. There is not much more I can illustrate from that ordeal, so I wanted to focus on the aftermath. They are both horrible tortures and I wanted to capture the severity of what Agnes experienced with her being semi-conscious and dragged to her cell afterwards.

The Witch-Dragged-LR.jpg

For the fourth, when I prepared the illustrations for the flogging, I went from the dread of Agnes being led to the whipping chamber to the initial strikes of the flogger. But I believe there was an important segment missing. So here, I show Agnes being taunted by the guard before he administers the first strike. Agnes tries to be defiant, but she lacks a poker face and all she can do is try to twist away from him.

The Witch-Taunt-LR.jpg

Finally, I wanted to reexplore the rack scene. The original illustrations went from Agnes struggling with the guards pulling her into the rack chamber to the middle of the interrogation, with Agnes making the High Examiner frustrated by her refusal to confess.

I believe an important scene was missing, which is the point between severe discomfort on the rack and excruciating pain. Here, Agnes is lifted off the bed of the old-fashioned rack and her body is pulled taut. She knows what is next with the upcoming turn of the roller. Her stubbornness keeps her from confessing, but she can’t hide her emotions and she turns her pleading, terrified face to the High Examiner before the true horror begins.

Until next time!

Awesome add-ons images! Is it possible for you to remake the PDF again with this new addition?

Just when we think that maybe you have finished, you return again! I guess the story isn’t finished until you say it is! Until every single moment is illustrated in lavish detail. You’ve really *swayed* on hanging as an execution. But I enjoy the burning even more…

Thank you again, everyone, for your likes and comments. The illustrations and PDF ebook I previously shared are the definitive version of THE WITCH. The illustrations I’m now sharing where contemplated at the time, but I didn’t have the inspiration to make them until now.

I like your idea, @tan2000 of an updated PDF with the new illustrations. That could be considered the “Special Edition” or “Extended Edition” of THE WITCH. But the original is still complete as is.

Here is another new illustration. Agnes is in the Lord Provost’s castle and has just been sentenced to death. As soldiers lead her away, her mother Muireall, who was in the gallery watching the sordid sentencing, rushes to her. Before Muireall can reach Agnes, a solder blocks her path. All her distraught mother can do is reach for her with her hand.

In a change of pace, I wanted to flashback to a happier time for Agnes and Matthew’s wedding day, which takes place a couple of years before the events of THE WITCH. I share this because I know of @mp5stab ’s fondness for long hair.

Agnes maintained her long locks. But after losing her first two children in infancy, when she was pregnant a third time, she made an offering to God to cut her hair if her baby survived. God answered Agnes’ prayers. That is why when Abigail as a toddler later became gravely ill Agnes desperately sought out Gilly’s help, which set the events of THE WITCH in motion.

And here is Gilly being led to the place of execution, where she will be garroted and burnt at the stake. I sought to capture on her face not only the fear of her own demise, but the shell-shocked grief that her false confession led to the death of so many innocent women, including her dearest friend Agnes.

I’ve done 10 total new illustrations in THE WITCH, and here are the last two.

First is Agnes being led into the chamber with the saltire that ultimately leads to her confession.

The Witch-Threshold-LR.jpg

Stepping back a bit, the second is Agnes after the second examination day when she was interrogated with the iron chair and pilliwinks. She was chained up for the night, with the next day offering a reprieve because it was the Lord’s Day. But the guards would not let her have the night in peace.

Thank you all, again. Until next time!

For anyone who has questions about where the new illustrations fit in with the prior posted illustrations in the sequencing, I'll post some of them here.

Here is how the order goes for Agnes' arrest and being brought to Old Tolbooth prison. I'll do the same for the other new illustrations.
