This is a little back story for Barbaria's avatar....
Thinking
Thinking while she waits to die
What else to do when nailed on high
Than struggle there and wonder why
The pain lasts so long?
Why she’d left an ordered life
To live with bitter war and strife
To cut out the Romans with a knife
And right a great wrong.
Thinking how, time and again
She’d fought the very best of men
And always triumphed over them
Until this last fight
How her wits and spoken word
Had meant her voice was always heard
And how she’d led her rebel horde
Against Roman might.
Thinking how her daring band
Had driven Romans from her land
Until no Roman dared to stand
Against their raw hate.
Thinking how her people, free
Had known they’d not for ever be
Without the Roman tyranny
And short was their wait…
Thinking how the Romans came
And soon her country was aflame
The Romans knew which one to blame
For their former loss
And so Barbaria waits to die
Naked, bleeding, nailed on high
But with defiance in her eye
On her Roman cross.
Thinking how, despite the pain
Her life had no way been in vain
She would do it all again
Contented was she
Naked, but she felt no shame
She’d done it all in Freedom’s name
And Rome would one day lose the game
And all would be free.
