Not a silly question at all. You do that for the same reason that you put protective coverings over things like computer plugs or seals on medicine bottles when shipping. Keep things in "factory" order, and demonstrate to the customer that they haven't been tampered with. We're running a quality product here, after all.

Exactly. Since the pandemic recovery and the subsequent low unemployment figures have occurred, the overall quality of employees in shipping industry has fallen unfortunately. We can no longer rely on the 'honor system' when it comes to handling of product in transit. So steps must be taken to insure that everyone complies with company policy regarding live merchandise.
