Hello everyone, it is me again, Alice. I am only on this website since 24 hours and yet I am posting very much. I do hope you guys are not ennoyed with my high activity. But I totally fell in love with this website and am so motivated to post stuff here. Yesterday I started a story about myself as a victim of the inquisition and today, I start a second project. In this series, I will research, examine and explain different torture und execution methods. This blog is not supposed to be erotic but more informing for interested minds. But I guess I will show pictures depicting the different methods and the pictures will be going more into the usual porn direction. But now, let us start with the first, classical method.
EPISODE 1 - STRAPPADO
Strappado is one of the most famous and well known torture methods and has also found it's way into the BDSM scene. For the strappado method the victim is hanged by it's arms. Many people think, that it is also called strappado, when the victims is hanged by it's arms with the hands above the head, but this is not accurate. By using this torture method, the victim's hands are tied behind his back and then dragged upwards. The victim is forced to bow forwards and feeling intense pain in it's shoulders and back. In the BDSM scene, the sub on which this method is used keeps the contact to the ground with the feet or at least the toes. This is absolutely necessary and the difference between the BDSM version of strappado and the actual method. When it was used as a real way of torture, the victim was dragged up in the air, loosing the contact to the ground, which was extremely dangerous. The weight of the body would be too much for the shoulders after some time and several bones in the back and shoulders broke, which was a fatal injury for the victim, from which they would not recover and often even died because of the caused damage in the aftermath. Sometimes additional weight was attached to the victim's feet, like heavy stone weights, which used to speed up the process of the bone breaking immense. With additional weights at the feet, not only the shoulders were damaged, but also the legs and the hips got destroyed. This was later turned into an execution method, called "Estrapado", which I will probably discuss in a later episode. Because of the immediate danger by using this method, it was not executed for more then one hour until the victim was permitted a break, because it would have been resulted in the immediate death otherwise.
The first known mention of the method, that I could find during my researches appeared in the year 1486 in the book "Malleus Maleficarum", better known as the witch hammer. This book was considered as a manual for the torture of accused witches in the middle ages. It describes, which torture devices should be used and in which order to force a confession and therefore, it also mentions strappado. Interestingly, opposing the fact, that strappado is one of the most well known and basic torture methods, the witchhammer mentions it more at the end of an interrogation and states, that it should be used in case of serious crimes.
Strappado was often used by the inquisition and is today mainly connected with the witch hunts. This is not without reason, since it was most of the time used in witch trials. But there were also other cases in which the method has been used. As an example, I would like to call the case of Girolamo Savonarola. He was an italien priest and friar in the 15th century. After the fall of the Medici era in Florence, he was not satisfied with the new political course of the church and started to rise critics against it. This is an extreme simplified account of the details, but an accurate description would fill severate pages and is very complex and hard to understand. Anyways, in the end, the strappado was also used against him before he was burned alive in 1498.
The strappado method finally vanished by the end of the 17th century but had a sad comeback in the 20th century. When the nazis found out about the method, they revived it and used it to torture prisoners and (accused) spys to obtain informations from them.
During the vietnam war, the method has been used in Hoa Lo prison, better known as "Hanoi Hilton", against prisoners, especially gunned down american bombers. The aim was in this case not to obtain information, but to break the will and the resistance of the prisoners.
In the last few years, this cruel method seems to have a sad comeback. Since the end of the 90s, more and more reports appear of the use of strappado. For example it was reported to been used in Turkey, Libya, Iraq, Ukraine and even by the CIA in the aftermath of 9/11 attacks.
