This drawing is akin to a "Spanish boot." The movie "The Devils, directed by Ken Russell (1971), describes this torture applied to Father Urbain Grandier, who, in 1632, was accused of having bewitched the nuns from an Ursuline convent. During his trial, Grandier was "interrogated" by having his knees crushed in a device using wedges driven in by a hammer, a variation of the Spanish boot. Grandier was burnt at the stake.

You're right of course, what artwork is depicting is much closer to 'the boot' than the brodequins. Quoom also did a very nice version of the boot in his Anne Heskew story.

Nice!

Just a reminder, to save on site costs we have a rule limiting image uploading to 5 images per thread per day, and a 400kb limit per image (which I’m very happy to see you kept well below)

I’ll let this one slide but please stick to the 5 image rule in future

Thanks

LCs
Oh, sorry, I made a mistake. I thought there was a limit of 6 images. I will pay attention next time

These are new for me, and about the best chair & brodequin torture I've yet to see.
Thank you for posting.
Do you know the artist, and are there more like this?

I reactivated my neurons and found out where they came from! It's a series of comics by Shin-ichi Sakamoto called 'Innocent', in French unfortunately . I don't think there are any other pics of this kind in this series.
