Ludwig van Beethoven - Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major "Emperor" - II. Adagio un poco moto

Glenn Gould, 1970

Krystian Zimerman, 2020

This Adagio, as you remember, sounds in the famous film by Peter Weir "Picnic at Hanging Rock", as a theme of civilization, opposing the theme of mysterious wildlife (by Bruce Smeaton).

Well, 'Ferryman' is a weird take on the traditions of Charon, who ferries the dead across the Styx
- coins put on the eyes of the dead to pay for the crossing!
(I did think the Ferryman looks alarmingly like our ImageMaker - well, at least, his avatar! )
'The Foggy Dew' (in that version) is a lament for the Irish rebels who died in the Easter Rising, 1916,
which may be uplifting or not, depending on point of view -
but we hope Ireland (all of the island) has moved on from those times, and won't ever slide back.

Here's a more mischievous 'Foggy, foggy dew' ;)

W. A. Mozart - Laudate Dominum, KV 339 - Patricia Janečková, soprano

Laudate Dominum omnes gentes
Laudate eum, omnes populi
Quoniam confirmata est
Super nos misericordia eius,
Et veritas Domini manet in aeternum.

Gloria Patri et Filio et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper,
Et in saecula saeculorum.
Amen.

Praise the Lord, all nations
Praise Him, all you peoples
Because it was confirmed
His mercy upon us,
And the truth of the Lord endures forever.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, and now, and forever,
And forever and ever.
Amen.

Psalm 117 (116 in the Vulgate), the shortest Psalm. Surely sung like that in Heaven!
