Just shows how wrong we are about 'Victorian prudery' - no chance of a Rabelais exhibition like that in London today, it would have all the armies of the self-righteous, right across the political spectrum, howling against it!

In fact, that exhibition took place, but was censored. Here's what Mysterybadger from the Vintage Erotica Forums writes about it:
The exhibition (held in 1890 in Cockspur St) opened to quite muted reviews from the press, the exhibitors had already decided not to show four of the pictures and placed others in a "special reserved room". Thirty-four of them were seized at the instigation of the National Vigilance Association and sent for trial, but eleven were returned to the exhibitors as not being indecent enough. Prosecution witness Holman Hunt declared that "no great artist of any time did the nude figure with the intention of indecency" (yeah, right) but that he "most distinctly" did find such an intention in these pictures. This answer was found to be inadmissable as evidence, but the pictures were ordered to be destroyed. On appeal it was agreed they could simply be returned to France, given the "different views held by other than residents of this country with regard to such works".

I noticed it when I got a like notification.
I uploaded it somewhere after that, but I don't remember.
If there's even one person who wants to see the rest of this, I'll upload it to this thread.
I’m keen, especially if it is your own work.
