The whip she could afford to ignore, for now, as she frantically parried blows from the other three as best she could. The condemned elf-girl's heart bounded and skipped in her breast, as she watched the elfin heroine twirl and leap among the slower-moving guards, her mighty sword a blur of glittering light....

The caged elf closed her eyes and forced herself to be calm. She prayed for a trance-dream, a vision which could grant her some images of the future. Even as the weapons clashed and the guards cursed, while the mob roared, the little elf saw events unfolding in her mind, which may or may not come to pass...

Erin backed away from the guards, panting heavily, but scarcely breaking a sweat. The men were tiring, and slightly weakened by several minor wounds to their arms and legs, though Erin had not managed to deal any more death-blows; committing herself to such a swing at one of them would have left her at the mercy of another of her attackers. She backed up against the cage that held the four condemned women, and they saw her cruelly whip-marked shoulders pressed against the bars. At least now her back was protected from further blows, though the guards stood arrayed in front of her, bloodied, and filled with vengeful rage. Erin turned and said over her shoulder, "You girls all right in there? You might want to stand back." She winked at them as they stepped to the back of the cage. Suddenly she twisted her sinuous body, bringing the pommel of the mighty Sword of Asaroth smashing down on to the door's iron lock; with a crash, the door fell open. Erin grinned at the prisoners within. "You're welcome," she said.

Interesting turn of events... Not sure whether or not the elf's vision will turn out to be just wistful thinking! When she opens her eyes, she may see Erin being subdued by the guards, and her hope is gone! :eek:
 
I'm enthralled with all the individual feedback I've gotten on this particular thread!! It started off as kind of a simple teaser question, and I'd only expected it to get a few hits - but it's really turned into something bigger than I'd thought and it's gotten some great input/inspiration!!! :D:p

As Erin continues to struggle, the Elf closes her eyes, and lends herself to her yearning desire to be freed. The trance dream consumes her mind. She imagines that Erin slays all of the guards, then smashes the lock of the gates, and they flee together.

But what is happening in reality is quite different, to the elf's dismay...

Erin is captured by the guards, and their prisoner count climbs to five. The crowd roars and screams with thunderous delight.

That could only be if some villain's stolen Erin's sword of Astaroth
and substituted a false one, and given the real one to her foes! :eek:
