The scene started with her covered by that blanket whilst restrained over that wooden pole, only guessing but the blanket was initially placed beneath her to hold it in place when covering her, the rest of the removed blanket in this caning scene was draped over a leafless small tree to her right. I'm guessing the cane strokes would be bothering her more than that relatively smooth pole, and anyway it keeps the pole hygienic, none of the caned lady's 'juices' leaking upon it,"Cleanliness is next to Godliness" as the quote goes
