We already had a discussion about this and it was concluded that it's a legend ... but, are the Amazons were not a legend too ?Didn't the Amazonian Warriors cut one of their breasts off,in order to use the Bow & Arrow better,in battle ??
legend, as Messa says, but ancient urban -just urban legend ?
So, essentially, whenever you're buying something online now, you're ordering from a company that seems to have purposefully called itself "Titless". I shall remember that.legend, as Messa says, but ancient urban -
it comes from the idea that in Greek Amazōn is 'a-mazōn' 'without a breast'
Don't know if this is written elsewhere or of it is just urban legend ??

the legend was 'burned off'
Other problems suggest themselves, too. Standing around mostly naked in stagnant water invites schistosomiasis, for example. Snails aren't as harmless as they look.I think Strabo says that, though another source (anon., ascribed to Apollodoros of Athens)
says they were 'pinched off' - which sounds even nastier!
If the Amazons were based on Scythian women warriors, they were using the recurved composite bow.Actually the legend was 'burned off' and having caught a nipple in a bowstring (YES I was shooting topless) I can understand the temptation!
However, there are multiple techniques for shooting a bow many of which are done without tits getting in the way, we're just hung up on the Victorian version of archery. Which it looks like at least some Greeks used too.
