That is where the last hope lives; He is not one of the Emperor's 'Praetorians' but only His own man, which is much more.

I'll give all He wants, even if it's with great difficulty; it's His decision what, if anything, will be left of me.

My Torture has the air of a Decadent and that's not an insult; because it is enjoyment He is looking for,

He's not just turning the cranks of the machinery of 'Justice' that grinds the bones and minces the flesh of those fed into it. He's not a servant of that machinery.

I know exactly why they first threw me into these dungeons, and I could tell Him all of it, but that's not what it's about anymore. It's not why I'm in His chamber now.

I don't think my Torture will have questions.

My Torture doesn't want to hear the silly things that would come out.

What good is it to hear that I was paid by every intelligence service of every foreign government you could name, including some invented on the spot, that I worked for Royalists and Republicans , conspired with Communists and slept with Anarchists.

Torture could make me confess anything, right up to flying on a broom or poisoning the Emperor, but that's not what He's looking for...

When you start maybe you'll be surprised how much I squeal and squirm right away.
Maybe from my talk you expected me to be tougher.

Then again once I've settled into the rhythm of the cracking and the crying you'll find I don't break up nearly as quickly as you expected from my first responses.

Between the start of my pain, where I can't help showing it, and the end of my pain, where I can't help laughing hysterically, banging my head against the wall and then fainting, there's a wide range for you to do your work.
So maye that's my 'contrast', maybe I'm both a bit weaker and a bit stronger than you expected.

But honestly, no matter how precisely you place your blows, how carefully you escalate the force and dial it back again, let me relax a bit and then go to rage again, and range over my body with that instrument, there's just no way I'm going to stand up to a full night of this.

I think I've had to deal with that exact ball before.
It's not 20cm diameter, it's quite a bit smaller - if it was that big, I'd be a ridiculous giant...
... just try working it out against the proportions of the figure. Taking it against my actual height I end up with an estimation nearer to 16kg.

This is a very different situation to that wooden horse with the saw-blade.
My feet can't reach the ground and are shackled together.
Not much I can do. Just try that for yourself. The force of any movement would be pitiful.
Also with the horse, the motivation to get off overrode everything else ;) - I wouldn't have cared what happened next.
Here, what would I gain by hopeless attempts to kick.
