Sorry to let you down, but her given name was Tula Ellice Finklea. When she was a child in Texas, her little brother called her "Sid" because he couldn't pronounce "Sis". When she took up acting, her agent suggest she change the spelling so she wouldn't be mistaken for a man (like that could ever happen). Charisse was the name of her first husband, Nico Charisse. He was he instructor in the Ballet Russe. When they married, she was 16 and he was 33.
With legs like those, who cares what her name was?
