Bare-Naked (Famous) Ladies

The first few seasons were awesome (the first is still the best IMO) but after season 5 they'd run out of source material so they started making up their own scripts, and holy crap it really shows :(

Season 7 is really bad and season 8 is a complete steaming pile of fucking garbage :(
Have no opinion of the series quality, but even I was bummed out by the last minute transition of protagonist Daenerys Targaryen

into a murderous monster, a message to fans to go bite bricks.

As I am one of 11 people in the observable universe who have never watched Game of Thrones, I had never heard of Gwendoline Christie, nor her character Brienne of Tarth.

I am astounded that you, being into SF and fantasy, have never watched Game of Thrones. Gwendoline Christie does an excellent job playing her character, pretty convincing as a female warrior I thought.

GoT ran during a period when my wife and I had cut the cable, and to this day I’ve only heard and read about it and collected gifs of Emilia Clarke.

I hear tell Ms. Christie was also a convincing storm trooper commander in Star Wars episodes VIII and XI, but I haven’t seen those either.

She also posed for some interesting publicity pics in the character of Captain Phasma. :D

As much as I loved Emilia Clarke as Daenarys in Game of Thrones, her role that really taught me something was in a really sappy 2016 love story titled "Me Before You". What she educated me on was the way the human face moves to form expressions, particularly eyebrows. Emilia Clarke's eyebrows are particularly heavy in that role, and they crawl all over, like caterpillars, as she gets excited, appalled, happy, sad, etc. I didn't know human eyebrows could move like that. That movie is why, in the newer version of Sabina, her expressions are much more expressive. Sabina's eyebrows squeeze together, curl up, all kinds of motions to display a mixture of terror and agony. And I got that from Emilia Clarke.

Watching this trailer for the movie, ignore everything else in the scenes and watch Ms. Clarke's expressions, particularly her eyebrows.

Emilia Clarke is insanely pretty and an awesome actress, but still Daenerys was one of my least favorite "good" main characters in GoT from the start. And while everyone complained about her uReAlIsTiC character development in seasons 7 & 8, I was like: "I knew that bitch was crazy!"

Everyone hoped she had escaped the Targaryen curse somehow - they had a reputation for going mad. But in the end it caught up with her. I read all the books, unless Geoge R. R. Martin finally wrote another one, and in all of those she was a very likeable character, had high aspirations of freeing all the slaves, etc. But her schemes to deliver them from captivity found a way of backfiring. Still, you never saw the megalomania she exhibited in the final seasons of the TV series surface, just her aspirations to the Iron Throne.

Yes, the evidence was there all along. Daenerys was always ruthless, single minded, convinced she was right. People cut her a lot of slack for being young, female, trying to get out from under the control of her brother or other men. But when her brother looked to her for mercy, she happily allowed him to die a horrible death, and watched on with satisfaction. When she was shown disrespect by the assembled Dothraki khals she burned them all alive, that's the picture in the post above, Daenerys emerging unscathed from the flames. She bought an army of slaves, then killed the slavers. With Daenerys it's her way or the highway, and heaven help anyone who crosses her. On top of which, she famously comes from a line of mentally/emotionally unbalanced inbred royals. So, no real surprises that she went that way in the TV series. The funny thing is all those people who named their baby daughters khaleesi thinking that she was some kind of Disney princess. This is George Martin ffs!

I have never watched GoT either, nor do I want to TBH. However I have read the 7 books in the series and still waiting the final one (which has been 10+ years in the writing)

If you've spent more time than is necessary or wise looking up naked ladies from a century ago, you’ve seen her.

BB579AED-C634-4D93-B346-737F838D32EB.jpeg

So I finally looked her up, and found she was no anonymous flapper. Matha Lober was a celebrated actress, dancer and model

and the picture is from a session with Hungarian-American photographer Nikolas Muray, prints of which are collectors items today.

How collectible? Well, we’re not talking van Goghs here, but they sell sell for a nice piece of change.

She also made for nice nude sculptures. :babeando:

Although I won’t be adding this one to my collection any time soon.
