This thread has got my memory working. (Always good to reminisce.) and my sister and I being chased and caught by the neighbours sons and friends in the woods not far from home.

Today I come to the aspect of hard slave labor. I think the images by Hard Labor 2023 speak for themselves...
Of course, men were preferred as slaves for work in mines, quarries or on galleys, while women were more likely to be forced to work in the household, in agriculture, in fabric processing or in prostitution. However, I found evidence that even women had to row hard while the men had a good time on the ship...

The main thing is a lot of rope, practicality isn't important, the artist may have thought...
But that's a common problem with these pictures -
or you don't see ropes and chains at all, they remain hidden behind the edge of the picture (like below).
