A figurehead is a figure (usually carved from wood) that is attached to ships, primarily sailing ships, under the bowsprit.Missed opportunity for crew morale. Apparently the Captain didn't think this through very well.
It is usually a female figure with the symbolic task to watch the ship's course and to protect it from misfortune.
The figure's job was to provide protection and security for the ship and crew - not to give the men pleasure
And if this protective task was already entrusted to a carved wooden figure...
how much more effective would be a living woman under the bowsprit of the ship?
The feeling of security ensures the best morale of the crew!
