This bizarre crash took place on 27th November last year in Maryland when the plane (a Mooney 201 - a very high-performance 4-seat, single engine light aircraft) hit the power lines while on approach to Gaithersburg airport in thick fog. Miraculously, the two occupants survived but it took almost seven hours for emergency crews to rescue them, by which time they had to be treated for mild hypothermia.

Most likely the plane hit the cables and then slid along them into the tower, as flying directly into the tower as the photo implies would have certainly torn off the wings and would undoubtedly have resulted in fatalities.

This was an incredibly lucky escape!

It seems me, the pilot gave a interview before start....
