Maybe it gets overlooked a little because it's meant to be poking a bit of fun at the whole Roman thing of crucifying, whipping, and all manner of nasty things that the Romans got up to. Eulalia can be an extremely humorous writer when she isn't applying hot irons and whips to sensitive bits.
