Nobleman Tree watches the women being nailed to their crosses. Many plead they were innocent but this did not stop the crews from driving the spikes through their wrist attaching them securely to the cross. Tree thinks 'If they thought that was brutal, wait till their feet are nailed and the cross is raised.'
All is in imagination, Tree : when you imagine, you love that ( no pain ) but when it's real, it's another "paire de manches " !!! ( Aaaaaarrrg !)Divergent reactions to the same event...

Being put to death by crucifixion is a terrible way to die as the women will fully learn. The nailing to the cross is only the beginning of their torment. They do not realize how fortunate they are to have crews that will insure their deaths are still a distant future away
I believe that while the slaves are nailed they don't even have an idea of what awaits them. The premise of the story is that the executioners, although they are sadistic psychopaths, are very skilled at doing their job and can keep their victims alive for days. Besides, woe to them if they disobey Tiberius or Sejanus!Being put to death by crucifixion is a terrible way to die as the women will fully learn. One has to like the reactions of the spectators... Even though the women's crucifixions are in an ugly phase of preparing them to be raised to hang displayed till they die, the women watching have varying degrees of fear and dare Tree say 'lust' for their suffering...
