The premise of the story is that the executioners, although they are sadistic psychopaths, are very skilled at doing their job and can keep their victims alive for days. The execution crew takes great enjoyment out of nailing the women to their crosses and then 'nailing' them as their arms are fixed spread on the cross. The soldiers of Tiberius are even worse, not bothering to remove their dress armor when they defile the doomed women. Their heavy metal plates crush the slave-women and volunteers alike, reminding the women they are nothing more than spectacles to be displayed for Tiberius' entertainment while they endure their deaths on the cross...
