A question for the community here:
In ancient Rome, in the Roman Empire, [female] delinquents were scourged and whipped on the way to the place of execution, i.e. the cross.
My question for the plot of two erotic crucifixion stories I am currently writing:
Are the crucified ladies also allowed to be flogged while hanging on the cross? Possibly INSTEAD of on the way there?
The reason for my question is this:
If a delicately built woman already has to carry 30, 40 or 50 kg (66, 88 or 110 lbs) of the patibulum on her shoulders and is then also whipped in the process, I wonder how far she can go before she collapses powerless!
Consequently, I would rather leave her alone on her path of suffering and then let her taste the whip on the cross...
Although I try to write as close to the actual history as possible, I wonder if that would be realistic?

Why whip at all?
She will last and suffer longer on the cross.
Only histoical whipping we know about, before crucifixion occured to jesus.
BTW that scourging was before Pilate decided he would be crucified
If you want her to be whipped why not shortly before the nailing on the place of execution?

Being a tiny woman myself , I too have often wondered how far I could carry the patibulum before collapsing and the whipping would shorten the distance, maybe the whipping should take place just before or after nailing before the cross is lifted into position

The regulations usually state that a woman sentenced to be crucified must first be stripped naked and then flogged before carrying the cross (or patibulum) to the place of crucifixion. While carrying the cross, a woman may receive additional blows from the whip if she refuses to carry the cross, carries it too slowly, or falls while carrying the cross. Practice shows that guards usually flog a woman when she refuses to carry the cross (in other cases, they usually wait patiently until she carries the cross to the place of execution or they hire someone for a small fee to help the woman carry the cross).
What regulations? There are no definitive accounts of women being crucified. All we really know is that it happened. Write it the way you want it.

I too have never heard of any regulations on crucifixion anywhere (Roman "Twelve Tables Law", church archives etc.). The fact is that crucifixions of women were much rarer than those of men. And crucifixions did not seem worthy of special mention or even detailed description to the historians of the time. (Which is a great pity!)

My understanding is that the condemned were either flogged or crucified, but not both. Those who were scourged were then released. Those on their way to the cross may have been under the lash to keep them moving, but the idea was to keep the crucified alive for as long as possible.

I have no lack of imagination, my dear Messaline! (You and I have already exchanged ideas about this via PM).
But I love to set my torture and crucifixions in my stories against a real historical backdrop, to describe the actions against as real a background as possible.
Just three examples: If I set a story - let's say - in the year 226 AD, I don't invent an "Emperor John", but then I have to research who was actually emperor in 226 and what his name was.
Or if I describe how food is brought to a prisoner in the dungeon cell, then I don't invent "chips with ketchup", but then it has to be the usual simple Roman food that was available at the time.
Or the last example:
I recently described a female protagonist from the higher Roman social class who is tortured and condemned to the cross for treason combined with adultery. I had to do a lot of research before I was able to describe the hairstyle and cosmetics of the fine ladies of the time.
I know that I make it very difficult for myself and I get annoyed every time this historical research takes me a long time, but that's what makes my erotic stories so appealing; I can tell them in a really lively, colorful and detailed way.
I love to involve you cruxgirls in my stories as realistically as possible.

@Sir Henry, as others have pointed out the lack of documented evidence of what went down in Roman crucifixions minimizes the risk of ahistorical writing. I maintain that if us 21st century types could imagine it, so could the Romans.
I like your fantasy but it's too hard for me I prefer enjoy the show with pop corn and a female slave between my legs
