It is an extensive process, as they must commit to dying in agony on the cross as the ultimate sacrifice and expression of their faith. They are quite comely lasses, and will dress much more conservatively as their training progresses and they prepare to become true brides of Christ. Michaela devoted this part of the day to prayers in her cell or to studying Latin every other day. On other days, she prayed under one of the chapels or studied the holy books in the monastery library with other novices of the order. She always did this in almost complete silence.
The last element of the monastic day was Compline in the main chapel of the monastery, which then took place half an hour before midnight and lasted exactly until midnight. During these prayers, as always on knees on the hard cold floor, they also thanked God for supporting them in their daily service in the monastery. Michaela, although she was already sleepy and her knees were at the limit of endurance, endured it bravely, praying with folded hands together with the other novices.
One of the rules of the Order of the Living Passion of Christ was that the nuns were to devote eight hours to sleep and eating, eight hours to work, and eight hours to prayer.
The last bells ringing precisely at midnight informed the sisters that their next day of service in the order was over and it was time for bed. Michaela, along with the other sisters, went in silence to their convent cells. There, in her cell, she said her bedtime prayer and went to sleep. The beds may have been simple, narrow and wooden and not very comfortable, but they were better than no beds at all.
