Girls With Swords!, For Erin

Willowfall, could I ask you an opinion on my countrys most famous sword?

I suppose that depends on the sword. I'm not going to pretend I know something about a particular sword if I don't. Swords in general are pretty easy to understand specific ones (and many were made to the specifications of the original owner), well what works for one person may be a disaster for another (example me with a small sword using the "French" school techniques in a duel).

It is the curved saber used by our greatest national hero, General Jose de San Martín, during all of our (and south america's) independence wars. He created and commanded a special horseback grenadier unit, and these type of sword was used by them too.
Number 9 on this list:

Well saber fighting is kind of unique because it comes in two forms (mounted and on foot) and not all mounted sabers are curved (example the Pattern 1908 British Cavalry Saber) which means they are used in 2 different manners.

I couldn't get the website you linked to to load but I saw picture of a replica of his saber. To me it is reminiscent Eastern European\West Asian styles with a fairly exaggerated curve and no kunkle guard. Being it is a curved version it is designed to be used to strike the target about 6-8 inches in from the tip and do most it's damage as it is drawn back (in effect slicing the meat) which makes sense on horse back as generally you are trying to strike on the pass and even if you and your opponent stay engaged your horse is not going to stand still (trust me on that one). Because of the curve and combat style the tip is secondary. This is a "backsword" as it only has one edge sharpened except for about 8 inches from the tip in on the top (or back) because there are cuts you make in defense that might snag your opponent.

IMO curved cavalry sabers are not as effective against grounded targets (read infantry) because they have a shorter "reach" (due to the blade curving back) than a straight cavalry saber has.

I have done training in infantry saber (the 2 styles are closely related to each other) but I prefer and am better with a Scottish basket hilt and given a choice I would face a saber with one of those.

As a separate point "dueling" sabers are all together a different animal and many of the later techniques are virtually useless on the battlefield.

You're not alone, you should see my 'images for resizing' folder - and I've cleared it twice since the limit came in!

You're not a habitual sinner, Heineudo. :)

I've started to break the large images out from the rest and I think I'm going to post links from my Google drive for those.

How long they last in Google depends on how much of my own work I produce.

And update - Ok so it's not all swords ........

I happen to also be a bow girl and shot (just once) topless ... let's leave it at it wasn't one of my better ideas. bdsmlr-32079-jlicYO79a6.jpegbdsmlr-141733-KmyQrKc2lv.jpg

I happen to love pole arms and I do have an ax with a very similar head in my collection. bdsmlr-92935-elmQR8bBu4.jpegbdsmlr-141733-8iLGt4vfYP.jpg

Interestingly sport fencing by women had been a round a long time (much longer than most female sports) and has generated a lot of erotica bdsmlr-434417-s3C9E0nDmQ.jpg
